This is a nice, crisp, clear sounding unit with minimal features now available at BestBuy. I tried hooking this up to my 12″ floor speakers and while it sounded nice, there was a glaring absence of bass. A Bass Boost switch is all this unit is missing. I am still wondering why this unit underperformed on the bass compared to the previous Sony 100watt x2 unit I was replacing it with. I’m doubting this Sherwood is a full 100×2….
If you’re thinking of using larger speakers (10″ woofs and up), and if you like your music and movies with a pleasing low end boom, I would recommend the Yamaha RX-797 as an upgrade alternative.
This Yamaha RX-797 unit pushes the bass real nice, features a loundess adjustment(aside from the main volume), crispy-clean sound and multiple other inputs for tape, CD, DVD, VHS, Phono, etc. You can find it out there for around $360.00 shipped (Amazon sells it for $499.00!!). Sure you’ll spend the extra bucks, but you’ll be much much happier, save yourself the time of hooking up, unhooking, and then returning this unit to wait for credit, like I did.
Wow, listening to it now and this Yamaha unit is great….
